ChatGPT Cleaner Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 13, 2026

ChatGPT Cleaner is an independent browser extension and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by OpenAI.

Data the extension handles

When you initiate a scan, the extension accesses your ChatGPT authentication session, account identifier, chat titles, conversation IDs, timestamps, archive and visibility state, Project identifiers, and Project membership. When Project membership cannot be determined from list metadata, the extension may retrieve the corresponding chat details, which can include personal communications, user-generated content, and attachments metadata. The extension uses this information only to display the cleanup preview, protect Project chats, and perform the archive or delete actions you explicitly confirm.

Storage and retention

Authentication tokens are kept only in memory for the request and are never saved by the extension. The most recent operation report is stored locally in Chrome storage and may include conversation IDs, chat titles, workspace ID, selected action, timestamps, and results. A new report replaces the previous report. You can delete it using “Clear local report,” remove the extension, or clear the extension's site data.

Sharing and transmission

The extension has no developer-operated server, analytics, advertising, or telemetry. It does not sell user data or send user data to the developer. Requests are sent directly over HTTPS between your browser and ChatGPT to provide the extension's cleanup function. OpenAI's handling of data is governed by its own policies.

Limited use

The use of information received from browser permissions complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data is used only to provide the extension's single purpose. It is not used for advertising, profiling, creditworthiness, or unrelated purposes, and humans do not review it.

Permissions

chatgpt.com host access reads the signed-in session and ChatGPT chat/Project data and sends user-confirmed archive or delete requests. Scripting runs the request function in the selected ChatGPT tab. Storage saves the latest operation report locally.

Your choices

Scanning begins only when you click “Scan all chats.” Archive and delete require a separate confirmation. You may deselect any chat, stop remaining operations, clear the local report, or uninstall the extension.
